Trove Tuesday - Fire at Retreat Station

I found the following interesting piece of news via Trove in an 1881 edition of the Western Champion newspaper from western Queensland, under the headline 'Isisford, February 27.'. Mr Fullerton mentioned is James Fullerton, my great great grandfather's brother.
The homestead at Mr. Christian's new purchase, Retreat, was totally destroyed by fire on Sunday the 21st inst. The manager, Mr. Fullerton, had occasion to go to the store, when it is supposed the cats upset the kerosene lamp, and the place was immediately in flames. Being wood lined with osnaberg and thatched, it was quickly burned to the ground, and Mr. Fullerton only just managed to prevent the fire catching the store and kitchen by superhuman efforts.

Motivation Monday - Goals for November 2012

During October, and for the rest of the year, I have and will take on some different responsibilities which have meant/will mean that I have less time to devote to my monthly organisation and genealogy goals.

During November I will be repeating my goals from October as follows:

  • Reacquaint myself with the features of the various genealogy software products I have on my computer (Legacy 7.5RootsMagic 4Family Tree Maker 2012Family Historian and Personal Historian 2
  • Continue implementing the Digital Organisational Scheme I developed back in January.
  • Continue working on my new family history file, working backwards methodically, recording all sources, attaching relevant source documents and attaching photographs.
  • Organise, crop, rename and tag photographs from my 'Scans To Sort' folder. At the time of posting my 'Scans To Sort' folder contains 17,268 Files, 374 Folders, 48.9 GB of data. During November I aim to reduce the number of files in my 'Scans To Sort' photographs folder to at least 15,000.

Z is for Z as in Elizabeth - Family History Through the Alphabet - Week 26

Image from Gould Genealogy & History
This is my contribution to Week 26 of Gould Genealogy's Family History Through the Alphabet challenge. The letter this time is Z.

I do not have any surnames, given names or locations in my family history beginning with the letter Z. So I am going to have to be a little creative with my theme again.

Z is for...Z as in Elizabeth
I have several direct ancestors named Elizabeth and one named Eliza.
