Blogs - 52 Weeks of Abundant Genealogy - Week 1

52 Weeks of Abundant Genealogy by Amy Coffin is a series of weekly blogging prompts (one for each week of 2012) that invite genealogists and others to discuss resources in the genealogy community including websites, applications, libraries, archives, genealogical societies and more.

Week 1 – Blogs: Blogging is a great way for genealogists to share information with family members, potential cousins and each other. For which blog are you most thankful? Is it one of the earliest blogs you read, or a current one? What is special about the blog and why should others read it?

To chose just one blog I am most thankful for is a very difficult task. According to Google Reader I have 237 current subscriptions (this includes RSS feeds of Alerts from Google, Ancestry and Trove as well as subscriptions to blogs). My subscriptions are arranged in various folders (see left).

According to Google Reader's 'Trends' page:
"From your 237 subscriptions, over the last 30 days you read 1,372 items, clicked 2 itemsstarred 21 items, and emailed 0 items.Since March 25, 2010 you have read a total of 53,925 items." Phew! In most cases, however, 'read' probably meant 'skimmed' or 'browsed'.

Because I can't choose just one, I have to say that I am most thankful for GeneaBloggers for introducing me to all kinds of genealogy blogs.

I will chose one or two blogs from some of my folders in Google Reader to highlight.

  1. I agree that it is impossible to choose just one blog. I think I may be able to narrow it down to four before I write my Week#1 post tonight!

  2. Thanks for including my blog among your favourites Aillin. I've still got on my "to do" list to go through all your organisational strategies...lots to learn there.

  3. Thank you for participating in the Abundant Genealogy series. I hope you enjoy it.

Feel free to alter any of the topics to fit your situation. If you want to pick more than one blog, that's fine!

Your comments are appreciated. Thanks.
