This Christmas, please consider joining the Genealogists for Families project on Kiva and help to make a difference in many people's lives.
From the Genealogists for Families project site: "You do NOT need to be involved in genealogy to join - you only need to care! Invite your family and friends to be a part of this team...Through Kiva, a non-profit organisation working with microfinance institutions, we make $25 loans that enable borrowers without access to traditional banks to expand their small businesses, support their families, save for the future and raise themselves out of poverty. When the loan is repaid, we can withdraw the money or lend it again. By repeatedly lending the same $25 we can make a difference to many people's lives."

To the left is a photograph titled 'The Immigrants first Christmas in Queensland' which I found via the State Library of Queensland's collection on Wikimedia Commons. As genealogists we often have to face the reality of poverty in the lives of our ancestors. I believe this often gives genealogists an understanding and empathy for people around the world who still live in poverty today. Genealogists for Families is a great way for genealogists and friends across the world to join together to help alleviate poverty. Please consider joining Kiva.
At the time of posting, Genealogists for Families has 103 members who together have contributed 210 loans worth a total of US$5,875. You can also learn more about the project at the Genealogists for Families Project blog.
Happy Christmas and God bless,
